Key Responsibilities

The role encompasses responsibilities across two specialized wards focused on the Care of The Older Person, with additional support provided across various medical wards. The Trust is also home to a rehabilitation facility that caters to the needs of the elderly population. Our innovative Community Frailty Service plays a crucial role in supporting our local community, ensuring that frail patients receive the necessary care in their homes. Furthermore, the introduction of an Acute Frailty Unit has bolstered our capacity to deliver integrated care through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Services for the Older Person include specialized care for conditions such as Parkinson's Disease, ortho geriatrics, and mental health support. Recent advancements in our Emergency Department and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) have further enhanced our service delivery.

Job Duties

As a member of the medical consultant team, you will collaborate with junior and trainee medical staff, as well as various clinical support teams, to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Our multidisciplinary team in Geriatric Medicine is known for its motivation and camaraderie, and we are eager to expand our efforts in assessing frail patients at the front door, thereby enhancing overall patient care.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP)
  • Completion of higher training in General (Internal) Medicine and Geriatric Medicine
  • Entry onto the Specialist Registrar or a UK SpR within 6 months of CCT or significant progress towards CESR

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate Degree (MD, PhD, MSc)
  • Formal qualification in medical education
