Key Responsibilities

The role encompasses working within two specialized wards focused on the Care of Older Persons, alongside various medical wards throughout the hospital. Our facilities include a rehabilitation center, enhancing our capability to support our elderly population. The Division is proud to offer an innovative Community Frailty Service, which extends our care beyond hospital walls, assisting our frail patients in their homes. Recently, we have established an Acute Frailty Unit, which operates with a collaborative approach involving acute, community, and social care teams.

The services provided include specialized care for conditions such as Parkinson's Disease, ortho geriatrics, and mental health support for older adults. Our Emergency Department and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) have also seen significant advancements, further enhancing our service offerings.

Role Expectations

As a member of our medical consultant team, you will be supported by junior and trainee medical staff, along with various clinical support teams. Our multidisciplinary team in Geriatric Medicine is enthusiastic and collaborative, working towards enhancing frailty and geriatric services within the Trust. Your role will involve assessing frail patients at the point of entry, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

We encourage professional development and provide opportunities for teaching junior trainees, medical students, and allied health professionals. Our commitment to continuous improvement is evident in our focus on audit work and research methodology.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP)
  • Completion of higher training in General (Internal) Medicine and Geriatric Medicine as necessary for CCT or CESR
  • Entry onto the Specialist Registrar or UK SpR within six months of CCT or significant progress towards CESR

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate degree (MD, PhD, MSc)
  • Formal qualification in medical education
