Senior Clinical Practitioner in Neurology

Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a Senior Clinical Practitioner within the Neurology department at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will operate independently as a Senior Clinical Practitioner, collaborating closely with senior medical professionals, and will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care through advanced clinical assessments and critical decision-making.
In alignment with the four pillars of advanced clinical practice as outlined by Health Education England, the individual will provide clinical leadership and mentorship within nursing and allied health professional teams, enhancing service delivery to elevate patient experiences while assisting consultants with daily clinical operations.
This role may be offered as a training position, with the expectation that the candidate will engage in all necessary training to achieve qualification as a Senior Clinical Practitioner.
Key Responsibilities
The individual will demonstrate the competencies expected of a proficient practitioner and will:
- Oversee the clinical management of patients with neurological disorders.
- Conduct thorough physical and mental health evaluations, interpret differential diagnoses, and determine suitable treatment plans based on clinical assessments.
- Prescribe medications as necessary, initiate diagnostic tests, refer patients to other specialists, and autonomously admit or discharge patients in accordance with established clinical guidelines.
- Administer therapeutic Botox for neurological conditions.
- Perform lumbar punctures on both semi-urgent and elective patients.
- Provide daily support and oversight to the Neurology Day Unit.
There may be occasions when the Trainee Senior Clinical Practitioner is required to assist in clinical operations across other areas within the department.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Healthcare Practitioner.
- Completed a professional development portfolio demonstrating advanced clinical practice in accordance with the HEE framework for Senior Clinical Practitioners.
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent credentialing.
- Independent Non-Medical Prescriber or willingness to undertake training (if legally permitted).
Desirable
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) provider/instructor.
Knowledge
Essential
- Strong leadership skills.
- Professional knowledge acquired through a qualification enabling registration with a healthcare regulatory body.
Desirable
- Experience in audit, research, or service evaluation.
- Familiarity with credentialing pathways for Senior Clinical Practitioners.
Experience
Essential
- Extensive clinical experience in the specialty at a senior level.
- Experience leading audit and research initiatives within the service.
- Ability to manage a complex caseload effectively.

- Experience in a role that directly supports an ACP position, such as a trainee ACP.
