About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Secretary to join our team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. As a Medical Secretary, you will play a crucial role in providing administrative support to our consultants and their teams, ensuring the smooth operation of our Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a high standard of secretarial and administrative services to the Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit, including typing, proofreading, and general administration duties.
  • Manage the clinical team's correspondence, ensuring timely processing and distribution of documents.
  • Book patient appointments in accordance with the 18-week pathway targets and Trust guidelines.
  • Oversee the postal system for incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring confidentiality and data protection.
  • Deal with telephone and written queries, providing excellent customer care and support to patients and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with other medical secretaries and administrators to maintain a high-quality service.
  • Undertake scanning and filing of correspondence, clinic notes, and test results, using Note On.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection and GDPR regulations.
  • Provide cover for other administrative/secretarial staff during times of absence.
  • Undertake general office duties, including photocopying, faxing, and filing.
Person Specification

We are looking for an individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, who is able to work well in a team and on their own initiative. The successful candidate will have a good standard of English, both written and spoken, and be numerate. They will also have a minimum of 1-3 years' experience in a medical secretarial role within the NHS, with a good understanding of secretarial practices and procedures.

The ideal candidate will be able to prioritize their workload effectively, manage their time efficiently, and meet deadlines. They will also have a sound knowledge of medical terminology and be able to work with confidential and sensitive information.
