Medical Secretary

The post holder will be expected to work within a mulit-disciplinary unit and deal with queries, audio typing of medical correspondence, administration and general correspondence quickly and efficiently. They will be required to support with follow up bookings and managing the follow up waiting list.
To provide a secretarial service primarily for allocated consultants and their team, to type all work with regard to clinics and general correspondence from audio dictation/proofreading from digital dictation.
Deal with all incoming telephone enquiries and written queries promptly and efficiently.
Effectively manage consultant diary and arrange appropriate meeting bookings.
Assisting with follow up bookings and managing the follow up waiting list
The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is a specialist tertiary referral hospital. A fifth of our patients are younger than 18 years of age. Patients are referred to the hospital nationally and internationally, often with complex medical needs.
**Children are admitted under different teams including**:
Paediatric Orthopaedics
Spinal Injuries
Spinal Deformity
Spinal Malformation
Bone and Soft Tissue tumours
Peripheral Nerve Injury
Paediatric Medicine (Metabolic Bone &Rheumatology)
The team consists of 5 secretaries in Paediatric Surgery and 2 in Paediatric Medicine. It is a supportive team that provides cover for each other.
To provide a secretarial service primarily for allocated consultants and their teams, to type all work with regard to clinics and general correspondence from audio dictation/proofreading from digital dictation. Must have 1-1 experience of working for a named consultant.
Deal with all incoming telephone enquiries and written queries promptly and efficiently.
Effectively manage consultant diary and arrange appropriate meeting bookings.
Work as a team with medical secretaries/administrators as directed by the Administration Manager, Catterall Unit, to ensure a high quality service is maintained at all times during office hours.
Undertake filing of correspondence, clinic notes, test results etc, in the appropriate medical notes.
Maintain patient information on the Patient Administration System and the system within the Unit if appropriate.
Providing cover for other administrative/secretarial staff during times of absence as delegated by the Administration Manager.
Undertake general office duties, including photocopying, faxing and filing.
To promote an open and friendly working environment.
Attend mandatory training.
Participate in Personal Development Plan.
Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures relevant to your position.
Assisting with follow up bookings and managing the follow up waiting list
Any other duties commensurate with the grade and in line with the requirement of this post.
