Position Overview

This role presents a unique opportunity to become part of the Maternity team as an Apprentice Maternity Care Assistant. The selected individuals will be integrated into the maternity unit, gaining valuable experience in assisting midwifery professionals and the broader multidisciplinary team in delivering care to women and their families throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal stages.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities associated with this position include:

  • Ensuring a hygienic and secure working environment.
  • Executing a variety of clinical and non-clinical healthcare tasks under the direct or indirect oversight of registered Midwives.
  • Delivering compassionate and high-quality healthcare while adhering to established standards, policies, and protocols, and always operating within the boundaries of your skills and departmental needs.
  • Maintaining exemplary clinical standards in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers.
  • Progressing through a structured learning pathway within a healthcare setting, ultimately working towards fulfilling the on-programme criteria of the Maternity Support Worker Apprenticeship Standard.

Main Duties

The primary duties of this role encompass:

  • Providing compassionate and high-quality healthcare, adhering to established standards and protocols while remaining within the limits of your competence.
  • Carrying out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare tasks under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals.
  • Executing duties as assigned in accordance with care plans.
  • Demonstrating best practices and serving as a role model following a period of experience in healthcare.
  • Treating individuals with dignity and respect, honoring their diversity, beliefs, culture, needs, values, privacy, and preferences.
  • Exhibiting respect and empathy towards colleagues and patients, possessing the courage to address concerns, and striving for best practices.
  • Being adaptable, reliable, and consistent, while demonstrating discretion, resilience, self-awareness, and supervisory leadership within your competence.
  • Participating in structured educational sessions to meet the identified on-programme educational requirements for a Level 3 apprenticeship.
  • Being accountable for your actions and evaluating the effectiveness of your contributions.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A-C (9-3), including English and Maths.
