Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has arisen to become a vital member of the Nursing team on Ward 10 at Northumbria Specialist Hospital. This role offers the successful candidate the chance to enhance their leadership and clinical expertise within the Cardiology field while deepening their understanding of the specialty.

Key Responsibilities

The position available is for a Band 6 Assistant Ward Manager on Ward 10 at Northumbria Specialist Care Hospital. This ward serves as a combined cardiology admission unit, featuring 6 level 2 CCU beds.

The selected candidate will oversee unit coordination, deliver high-quality patient care, and take charge of operational services in the absence of the ward manager. You will be expected to lead Ward 10/CCU on a rotational basis, which includes both day and night shifts.

The post holder will be accountable for patient management in conjunction with patient care.

Job Duties

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Assuming responsibility for the delegated management of the ward/department, including assessing care needs and implementing evidence-based care in the absence of the ward manager.
  • Supervising, supporting, and educating junior team members.
  • Exercising accountability as outlined in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Ensuring all nursing care standards are upheld and maintaining high clinical standards.
  • Acting as a team leader and coordinating the multidisciplinary care of a designated group of patients.
  • Modeling compassionate and inclusive leadership to foster a collective leadership style that engages, enables, and empowers others, promotes ownership of learning and quality improvement, and facilitates teamwork and collaboration across teams and organizational boundaries.

Candidate Profile

Experience Requirements

Essential:

  • Previous post-registration experience.
  • Experience in the relevant specialty.
  • Evidence of practice development.
  • Experience in coordinating a team.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • First level live NMC Registered Nurse.
  • Mentorship/Practice assessor qualification (essential for this role).
  • PP126/127 or AC631 or D32/33 or A1 or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Leadership course.
  • Diploma/degree in nursing.
  • Management course.
  • Qualification in specialty.
