Job Title: Rental Income Support Officer

Pay Rate: £22.36 PAYE / £27.80 Umbrella

Duration: Initially 4 Months

Location: Hybrid working model (1-2 days in the office per week)

Essential Requirements: Proficient knowledge of Rent Sense & Northgate is critical for this position.

Role Overview:
As a Rental Income Support Officer, you will oversee a portfolio of properties aimed at optimizing rental revenue, which amounts to approximately £70 million annually. Your role will involve operating within a commercial framework to ensure exceptional customer service, thereby enhancing resident satisfaction and promoting sustained tenancies. You will implement operational and legal procedures to maximize rental income while adhering to statutory regulations, council policies, and performance indicators.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage a designated area of rent accounts, serving as the primary contact for residents regarding various inquiries, from refund requests to eviction processes.
2. Enhance income through proactive engagement as soon as accounts fall into arrears, focusing on personal communication via phone calls and home visits.
3. Ensure compliance with the council's escalation protocols for rent arrears, including adherence to court pre-action protocols. Document and justify any deviations from recommended actions. Facilitate and monitor repayment agreements with residents, crafting personalized correspondence that emphasizes the necessity of settling arrears while delivering excellent customer service.
4. Achieve personal and team objectives that reflect a commercially driven environment, aiming to maximize the collection of the annual debit of approximately £70 million through effective teamwork.
5. Promote the uptake of Housing Benefit and lead initiatives to identify cases where in-depth knowledge of Housing Benefit regulations can assist the Housing Benefit Assessment Officer in reviewing and awarding backdated benefits.

  • In-depth understanding of housing legislation, regulatory frameworks, and associated case law, including Welfare Reforms and court protocols.
  • Experience in income management within a social housing context, adept at navigating the associated challenges.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of welfare benefits policy and legislation.
  • Proven ability to establish sustainable repayment arrangements for residents facing arrears.
  • Strong listening skills with the ability to quickly and accurately process information from residents and colleagues.
  • Collaborative mindset, capable of working effectively with team members.
