Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Academic, you will take on additional responsibilities, playing a vital role in enriching the academic and professional landscape. Your duties will include:

  • Curriculum Leadership: Lead the curriculum area, mentoring colleagues to uphold the highest standards in teaching and learning.
  • Collaborative Development: Work alongside the Head of Academics or the Dean to spearhead initiatives for curriculum enhancement.

Programme Development and Management:

  • Lead the creation, management, and evaluation of academic programs within your discipline.
  • Oversee and assess colleagues' work, providing guidance to improve the quality of educational offerings.

Research and Professional Growth:

  • Engage in advanced research activities, contributing to ESL's academic profile and remaining at the forefront of developments in the field.
  • Participate actively in university research initiatives, fostering a culture of innovation.

Quality Assurance and Improvement:

  • Play a key role in enhancing teaching and learning standards, implementing and monitoring self-assessment processes.
  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of quality improvement strategies.

External Relations and Partnerships:

  • Strengthen connections with external stakeholders, industry partners, and employers to enrich the student experience and promote collaborative initiatives.
  • Represent ESL at external events, enhancing the institution's reputation.

Teaching and Support:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction across various programs, focusing on the Foundation year in your discipline.
  • Provide personalized tutoring to students, assisting them in achieving their academic objectives.
  • Actively contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of courses, collaborating effectively with both faculty and students.
  • Engage in the creation of module-specific Schemes of Work and develop materials for each module.
  • Facilitate subject-specific sessions aligned with the Learning Outcomes and syllabuses.
  • Implement assessments as directed by the assessment team.
  • Identify and address the learning needs of students within your modules.
  • Offer timely formative feedback as outlined by program specifications.
  • Evaluate and provide summative feedback within the deadlines set by the Assessment Team.
  • Ensure compliance with the expectations of the Programme Specification of relevant Awarding Bodies and Universities.
  • Generate appropriate module/unit reports.
  • Communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Contribute to the School's Research Department.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

  • Doctoral qualification in a relevant subject area (Senior Academic Only).
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in higher education teaching in the UK (Senior Academic).
  • Master's degree in a relevant subject area (Minimum requirement for Lecturer).
  • Prior lecturing experience in similar courses at the higher education level.
  • Proficiency in using Blackboard/VLEs, MS Teams, and Zoom.
  • PhD in a relevant field (Senior Academic only).
  • Native English speaker or current IELTS 7.5 Academic Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and oversee implementation of program development plans and assess colleagues' work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior education professionals.
  • Capability to build and maintain strong teacher/learner relationships with students.

Desirable:

  • Possession of a teaching qualification such as FHEA or PGCHE, indicating a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Strong understanding of maintaining effective cross-cultural and interpersonal relationships.
  • High-level communication and presentation skills.
