Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Lecturer, you will take on additional responsibilities and play a vital role in fostering an enriching academic and professional environment. Your duties will include:

  • Leading curriculum initiatives, mentoring colleagues to uphold exceptional standards in teaching and learning.
  • Collaborating with academic leadership to spearhead curriculum development and enhancement efforts.

Programme Development and Management:

  • Assuming a leading role in the creation, management, and evaluation of academic programs within your discipline.
  • Assessing and guiding colleagues' work to elevate the quality of educational offerings.

Research and Professional Growth:

  • Engaging in advanced research activities to bolster the academic profile of ESL and remain at the forefront of field developments.
  • Actively participating in university research initiatives, promoting a culture of innovation and inquiry.

Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:

  • Contributing significantly to the ongoing enhancement of teaching and learning standards, implementing and overseeing self-assessment processes.
  • Participating in the formulation and execution of quality improvement strategies.

External Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Strengthening relationships with external stakeholders, industry partners, and employers to enrich the student experience and promote collaborative initiatives.
  • Representing ESL at external events, enhancing the institution's reputation and standing.
  • Delivering high-quality teaching across various programs in a higher education context, with a focus on foundational courses in your discipline.
  • Providing personalized support to students, assisting them in achieving their academic objectives and fostering positive progress.
  • Actively contributing to the development and continuous enhancement of courses, collaborating effectively with both faculty and students.
  • Participating in the design of module-specific Schemes of Work.
  • Creating module materials for the courses being taught.
  • Facilitating subject-specific sessions aligned with module learning outcomes and syllabuses.
  • Implementing assessments as outlined by the assessment team.
  • Establishing measures to identify and address the learning needs of students.
  • Providing timely formative feedback as specified by program requirements.
  • Marking and delivering summative feedback within the deadlines set by the assessment team.
  • Ensuring compliance with the expectations of the program specifications of relevant awarding bodies and universities.
  • Generating appropriate module/unit reports.
  • Demonstrating effective communication with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Contributing to the School's Research Department.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

  • Possession of a doctoral qualification in a relevant field (Senior Lecturer only).
  • A minimum of 4 years of teaching experience at the higher education level in the UK (Senior Lecturer).
  • A Master's degree in a relevant subject area (minimum requirement for Lecturer).
  • Prior lecturing experience in similar courses at the higher education level.
  • Proficiency in using Blackboard/VLEs, MS Teams, and Zoom.
  • PhD in a relevant field (Senior Lecturer only).
  • Native English speaker or current IELTS 7.5 Academic Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and oversee implementation of program development plans and assess colleagues' work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior education professionals.
  • Capability to build and maintain strong teacher-learner relationships with students.

Desirable:

  • Possession of a teaching qualification such as FHEA or PGCHE, reflecting a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
  • A comprehensive understanding of maintaining positive cross-cultural and interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
