Key Responsibilities

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is offering a remarkable opportunity to oversee the development, coordination, and management of Technical Fire Safety Officers within the Southern Protection Division. This role is crucial in enhancing awareness of technical fire safety matters across various community sectors.

The successful candidate will lead and manage the Protection team to support the achievement of core objectives outlined in our Safety Plan and Protection strategies.

The post-holder (if Grey Book) may have the opportunity to participate in the flexible duty rota, subject to meeting specific criteria.

Primary Duties

Lead, develop, and coordinate team members to foster an inclusive and high-performing culture, ensuring all activities align with the Service's systems thinking methodology and change management processes. Assist in the creation and execution of Service Delivery plans, ensuring local plans align with the objectives of the Service's Safety Plan. Engage in tactical and strategic management meetings as necessary, and represent the Protection Lead Officer when required in meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Support the Protection team with intricate fire safety audits or investigations as appropriate. Build and nurture a network of contacts (internal & external) across the Service Delivery Group to enhance the contribution of the Protection Team at the local level, aiming to reduce the incidence of fires and other emergencies. Manage relationships and partnerships with stakeholders (internal and external) at local and regional levels to enhance knowledge, share best practices, identify potential funding sources, and develop initiatives aimed at reducing fire risks and improving overall safety in Staffordshire. Drive service enhancements and encourage partners and clients to adopt building planning practices that incorporate sprinkler systems, both in commercial and residential settings. Facilitate the implementation of Service projects aimed at improving organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Stay informed about demographic changes within the Service Delivery Group area to identify key risk areas, ensuring that Protection information is current and accurate to aid in the development of Protection strategies. Utilize an intelligence-led approach to align Protection strategies with the reduction of demand for fire and emergency services. Effectively manage the execution of Service strategies related to Unwanted Fire Signals, After the Fire inspections, the high-risk Inspection Programme (RBIP), and other Protection initiatives. Plan and manage team resources effectively, considering financial and management information along with broader organizational needs and constraints. Lead and contribute to initiatives related to technical fire safety and other organizational aspects as dictated by Service needs. Assist in the creation and revision of technical fire safety policies and procedures. Support any internal Fire Safety prosecution investigations and activities undertaken by the Service, and be prepared to acquire necessary qualifications to assist in prosecution-related work. Provide assistance to Protection Managers within other Service Delivery Groups and the Central team. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and awareness of developments within the Protection field as required by the role. Grey Book staff must uphold operational competence in accordance with the Service's Operational Competency Framework and provide resilience to response arrangements during high-demand periods. Monitor Grey Book team members' adherence to the Service's Operational Competency Framework to ensure readiness to support Response arrangements during high-demand periods. Undertake any other reasonable duties within the overall function that align with the grading and level of responsibility of the position.
