Key Responsibilities

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service presents a unique opportunity to oversee the development, coordination, and management of Technical Fire Safety Officers within the Southern Protection Division, while enhancing awareness of fire safety issues across various community sectors.

The successful candidate will lead and manage the Protection team to ensure the achievement of core objectives as outlined in our Safety Plan and Protection strategies.

The post-holder (if Grey Book) may qualify for inclusion in the flexible duty rota, subject to meeting specific criteria.

Primary Duties

Lead, develop, and coordinate team members to foster an inclusive and high-performing culture, ensuring all activities align with the Service's systems thinking methodology and change management processes. Assist in the formulation and execution of Service Delivery plans, ensuring local initiatives support the objectives of the Service's Safety Plan. Participate in tactical and strategic management meetings as necessary, and attend Directorate meetings as required. Act as a deputy for the Protection Team Lead when engaging with internal and external stakeholders. Support the Protection team with intricate fire safety audits or investigations as needed. Establish and nurture a network of contacts (internal & external) across the Service Delivery Group to enhance the Protection Team's local contributions towards reducing fire incidents and other emergencies. Manage relationships and partnerships with stakeholders (internal and external) at local and regional levels to improve knowledge sharing, identify funding opportunities, and develop initiatives aimed at fire risk reduction and overall safety improvements within Staffordshire. Drive Service enhancements and influence partners and clients to incorporate sprinkler systems in their building planning processes, applicable to both commercial and residential projects. Support the implementation of Service projects aimed at improving organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Maintain awareness of demographic shifts within the Service Delivery Group area to pinpoint key risk areas, ensuring Protection information is current and accurate to aid in the development of Protection strategies. Utilize an intelligence-led approach to align Protection strategies with the reduction of demand for fire and emergency services. Effectively manage the execution of Service strategies related to Unwanted Fire Signals, After the Fire inspections, the high-risk Inspection Programme (RBIP), and other Protection initiatives. Plan and manage team resources efficiently, considering financial and management information alongside broader organizational needs and constraints. Lead and contribute to projects concerning technical fire safety and other organizational aspects as determined by Service needs. Assist in the creation and revision of technical fire safety policies and procedures. Provide support for any internal Fire Safety prosecution investigations and activities undertaken by the Service, and be prepared to obtain necessary qualifications to assist in prosecution-related work. Offer support to Protection Managers within other Service Delivery Groups and the Central team. Keep abreast of developments within the Protection field as required by the role. Grey Book staff must maintain operational competence in accordance with the Service's Operational Competency Framework and provide resilience to response arrangements during peak demand periods. Monitor Grey Book team members' adherence to the Service's Operational Competency Framework to ensure readiness and resilience during high-demand situations. Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the grading and level of responsibility of the position.
