Key Responsibilities

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service presents a remarkable opportunity to oversee the development, coordination, and management of Technical Fire Safety Officers within the Southern Protection Division, while enhancing community awareness regarding technical fire safety matters.

The successful candidate will lead and manage the Protection team to support the achievement of core objectives outlined in our Safety Plan and Protection strategies.

The post-holder (if Grey Book) may have the opportunity to participate in the flexible duty rota, subject to meeting specific criteria.

Primary Duties

Lead, develop, and coordinate team members to foster an inclusive and high-performing culture, ensuring all activities align with the Service's systems thinking methodology and change management processes. Assist in the formulation and execution of Service Delivery plans, ensuring local initiatives align with the Service's Safety Plan objectives. Engage in tactical and strategic management meetings as required, and represent the Protection Lead Officer in meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Support the Protection team in conducting complex fire safety audits or investigations as necessary. Establish and nurture a network of contacts (internal & external) within the Service Delivery Group to enhance the Protection Team's contributions at the local level, aiming to reduce the incidence of fires and other emergencies. Manage relationships with stakeholders at local and regional levels to enhance knowledge sharing, identify funding opportunities, and develop initiatives aimed at improving safety within Staffordshire. Drive service enhancements and influence partners to incorporate sprinkler systems in both commercial and residential building planning processes. Facilitate the implementation of Service projects aimed at improving organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Maintain awareness of demographic changes within the Service Delivery Group area to identify key risk areas, ensuring Protection information is current and accurate to inform Protection strategies. Oversee the implementation of Service strategies related to Unwanted Fire Signals, After the Fire inspections, the high-risk Inspection Programme (RBIP), and other Protection initiatives. Strategically plan and manage team resources, considering financial and management information alongside broader organizational needs. Lead and contribute to work streams associated with technical fire safety and other organizational aspects, as dictated by Service needs. Assist in the development and revision of technical fire safety policies and procedures. Provide support for internal Fire Safety prosecution investigations and activities, and pursue relevant qualifications to assist in these processes. Offer support to Protection Managers within other Service Delivery Groups and the Central team. Stay informed about developments in the Protection field as required by the role. Grey Book staff must maintain operational competence in accordance with the Service's Operational Competency Framework, providing resilience to response arrangements during peak demand periods. Monitor Grey Book team members' adherence to the Service's Operational Competency Framework to ensure readiness for response arrangements during high-demand periods. Perform any other reasonable duties aligned with the overall function and level of responsibility of the position.
