**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Assist with day to day managing of a large team, deputising to the Team Leader.
- Assist the Team Leader with recording of Health and Safety records in line with licensing requirements.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the husbandry needs of a variety of hoofstock species.
- Assist and collaborate with the team for research projects of Hoofstock species, as well as encouraging the team to contribute to the BIAZA Hoofstock Subgroup.
- In conjunction with the Team Leader, working with the appropriate teams (Evidence Based Animal Care, Wildlife Health Services, Zoological Services etc.) to report on the health and welfare of the animals, and advising on future improvements which can be made.
- Ensure that the relevant systems (ZIMS, Alcumus etc.) are kept up to date and accurate. Delegating section management and administrative tasks to the team as required.
- Working on the section as a member of the keeper team to train, supervise and cover staff shortages as required.
**Person Specification**:
- Have in depth knowledge of and experience with a variety of hoofstock species.
- Have a proven track record of working in an accredited institution at senior keeper level or above.
- Have the ability to manage a large team in high pressure situations.
- Flexible working patterns, evenings, weekends and out of hours when necessary.
- Profficient in the use of ZIMS, all microsoft programmes and the ability to learn ZSL specific programmes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to represent ZSL at conferences, workshops and other events confidently and professionally.
- The ability to work outside in all weathers and lift loads of 20kg.
- The ability to deputise in the absence of the Team Leader including weekends.
- Confident managing sensitive situations and dealing with confidential information.
- Able to manage a varied workload with deadlines and time restraints.
**_Please note:_** Flexible working is required for this position which will include working alternate weekends and bank holidays. Applicant must also be presentable, flexible in their approach and totally reliable. The job includes heavy lifting and manual work in all weathers.
