Garrowby Estate is located 13 miles east of York and comprises a significant property portfolio made up of the following:

Two principal houses40 let farms140 let houses and cottages800 acre in-hand farmStud farm1,140 acres of forestryVarious commercial properties including a village pub Garrowby Estate and three other estates owned by the Halifax family are managed from the Estate Office in Bugthorpe. There are 41 employees including an in-hand Works Department with a staff of 11 joiners and builders. The Role:

A new in house role for an Estate Plumbing and Heating Engineer has been formed to focus on the servicing and maintenance of the residential property portfolio. The majority of properties are served by oil-fired heating and hot water systems, with some gas or renewable technologies installed. An experienced, versatile and skilled individual is required to join the team. The position offers a varied workload within an attractive working environment.

Reporting to the Buildings Manager and operating from Garrowby Sawmill, the successful applicant will be qualified to City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing and Domestic Heating or an equivalent field (BPEC/NVQ) and will be required to fulfil the following criteria:

Oftec registeredExperience in assessing faults and repairing to a high standardExperience carrying out routine boiler servicingExperience in maintaining renewable heating systems would be desirableExperience and relevant qualifications for gas servicing would be desirableAbility to carry out ceramic wall tiling would be desirableA clear understanding of relevant Health and Safety regulationsSelf-motivated and capable of producing high quality work on a consistent and efficient basisAbility to work on own initiative and solve problemsPolite and professional mannerA friendly character is essential with the ability to interact with a wide range of peopleExtra Info/ Benefits:

A suitable house will be made available to the successful applicant.

The successful applicant will be entitled to join the pension scheme and the employer will contribute 6% of salary.

Working hours are 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday with a 15 minute break in the morning and a 30 minute break for lunch. The successful applicant will be required to be on call in rotation for emergencies out of working hours.

Holiday entitlement is 29 working days including Public Holidays.

The successful applicant will be expected to commence work as soon as possible
