You will assist the Picture Book department's administrative and scheduling work and support the Publisher and Editorial Director with their workloads and schedules, whilst also growing in language, creative and publishing skills. You will also ensure that administrative work is carried out to the highest standard, with exceptional attention to detail.

Key responsibilities

Working with designers, editors and other departments to see new titles through pre-print stages.Supporting the department in getting a title ready to go out to repro − preparing prelims, copy editing, proofreading. Preparing and co-ordinating internal meetings, taking and distributing minutes and ensuring all actions and correspondence are implemented.Preparing and running costings, liaising with designers on gathering specs/finishes. As well as liaising with our Sales and Foreign Rights departments on gathering sales quantities. Initiating and processing development fee forms and contract request forms.Completing acquisition forms.Copywriting: Writing and proofreading AIs, running AIs by the relevant editors, creating promotional BLAD and catalogue copy.Reading and assessing solicited and unsolicited manuscripts.Undertake any content, picture and market research.Updating the picture book matrices at the beginning of each month, and checking against acquisition and scheduling notes.Ordering books, sending publication day cards, posting foreign editions of books, sending out personalised book parcels, ordering gifts, and maintaining key external contacts.Ensuring that title and author/illustrator information is updated and correct in Biblio, as well as cover images, title changes, formats, publication dates, prices, author photos.Working with the team in increasing our department profile via social media.Diary and event administration, including but not limited to managing the Picture Book Publisher's schedule, organising book fair diaries, etc.Providing general administrative support to the Picture Book Department. Supporting commissioning activity in close collaboration with the senior editorial team. Adhoc tasks as required.
