Role Overview

The Assistant Editor-in-Chief plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless execution of the publishing workflow for a designated collection of titles, while also providing editorial assistance across the Cornerstone portfolio. Responsibilities include overseeing selected projects through the editorial stages and coordinating external processes.

In your daily tasks, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with Editorial, Production, and Design teams (and international publishers as necessary) to manage the workflow of key titles.
  • Supervise the editorial and production processes for specific original works.
  • Compile manuscripts and proofs, ensuring accuracy in proof corrections.
  • Review jackets and covers for assigned titles.
  • Assess marketing materials, including book-proof covers.
  • Execute additional editorial and administrative duties as needed to maintain departmental efficiency.

Qualifications

We are seeking an individual eager to advance their career in Managing Editorial. The following qualifications are essential:

Experience:

  • Managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Familiarity with the publishing industry and the editorial/production workflow, whether in trade, academic, or magazine sectors.
  • A demonstrated passion for literature and a voracious reading habit.
  • Proficiency in copy-editing and proofreading.

Personal Attributes:

  • Results-oriented with exceptional organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent grammar and spelling, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • A collaborative team player with interpersonal sensitivity.
  • Initiative, independence, and adaptability.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between £29,500 and £32,500, depending on how your skills and experience align with the role, along with bonuses and benefits.
