Role Overview

The Assistant Editor-in-Chief plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless execution of the publishing workflow for a specific portfolio of titles, while also providing editorial assistance across the Cornerstone catalog. This position involves overseeing selected works through the editorial journey and coordinating external collaborations.

In your daily responsibilities, you can anticipate:

  • Collaborating closely with Editorial, Production, and Design teams (and international publishers when necessary) to manage the production of key titles.
  • Supervising the editorial and production phases for designated original works.
  • Gathering manuscripts and proofs, and verifying proof corrections.
  • Reviewing jackets and covers for assigned titles.
  • Evaluating marketing materials, including book-proof covers.
  • Performing various editorial and administrative duties to ensure the department operates smoothly.

Qualifications

We seek a candidate eager to advance their career in Managing Editorial. The following qualifications are essential:

Experience:

  • Managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Familiarity with the publishing industry and the editorial/production process, whether in trade, academic, or magazine sectors.
  • A demonstrated passion for literature and a voracious reading habit.
  • Proficiency in copy-editing and proofreading.

Personal Attributes:

  • Results-oriented with strong organizational and time-management capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Flawless grammar and spelling, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • A collaborative team player with interpersonal sensitivity.
  • Initiative, independence, and adaptability.

Compensation

The salary for this position ranges from £29,500 to £32,500, depending on how your skills and experience align with the role, in addition to bonuses and benefits.
