Job Summary
The Association for Laboratory Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Editorial Trainee to join its team. As an Editorial Trainee, you will gain valuable experience in editorial work, publishing, and non-profit communications.
About the Role
This part-time traineeship offers a unique opportunity to work in a small and supportive team, gaining highly varied experience across the organisation's three main editorial outputs. You will assist in conducting editorial checks, responding to author queries, and writing news articles and content for the website and member magazine.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct editorial checks on manuscripts submitted to the journal, learning about ethics checks, editor management, and how academic journals operate.
- Respond to author queries, assist with creating an email newsletter, and reading materials for the editorial team.
- Write news articles and content for the website and member magazine.
- Support the research of stories for a brand new podcast being produced by the organisation.
- Help with administrative tasks in the peer review process for the patient information website.
- Support the editorial boards and external suppliers with their queries.
- Attend staff team, editorial board, and committee meetings.
Requirements
- An interest in a career in publishing/editorial is a must.
- Ideally interested in working in the non-profit sector or in scientific academic publishing.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Able to share the attitude of the organisation to get stuck in, try new ideas, and be creative in how you get things done.
- A desire to gain varied experience, be proactive, and learn as much as you can about the publishing projects the organisation runs.
