Your Role

The Assistant Editor position encompasses both editorial and administrative responsibilities. You will collaborate closely with the Publishing Director and Editorial Director to oversee the journey of titles from manuscript to publication, ensuring that quality and timelines are upheld. Key editorial tasks include, but are not limited to, copy-editing, creating author instructions, drafting copy, reviewing proofs and ebook formats, proofreading, assembling proofs, and organizing indexes in accordance with time, cost, and quality standards. Administrative responsibilities will involve processing invoices, updating bibliographic records, preparing preliminary and elimination materials, and securing text permissions.

This position is ideal for an individual with a solid foundation in editorial work who is eager to advance their career. The successful candidate will possess creativity, commercial awareness, exceptional attention to detail, strong writing abilities, and effective project management skills. Excellent communication skills are essential for liaising with various in-house departments, including sales and marketing, design, and production.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in an editorial or publishing capacity
  • Comprehensive understanding of the publishing workflow

  • Proven reliability and responsibility in previous roles
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritize effectively
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues at all levels

  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong copywriting, editing, and proofreading capabilities
