About the role

The Head of Strategic Communications is responsible for deputising for the Director of Strategic Communications and managing the output of the strategic communications team. This includes ensuring work is well planned, is high quality and meets the needs of a diverse range of internal stakeholders. This is a key appointment in a newly established team. The role therefore requires the post holder to be flexible. They should embrace the opportunity to work between all areas of the team’s work as well as supporting the Director. The post demands excellent attention to detail, great team management and the ability to positively manage relationships across a large and complex group of stakeholders.

The role holder will work at pace working with the Director to ensure leadership goals are achieved. In addition, they will lead on establishing a culture of continuous improvement and evidence-based comms delivery.

On a day-to-day basis you should expect to work closely with the Head of Brand, Head of Marcomms, Head of Internal Communications, Head of Events, Head of Publications amongst others. You will be part of a VPEE leadership team that will take corporation ownership of the strategic direction of the department

Interviews will be held in person at our office in King’s Cross.

The post is available to start immediately.

About you

Having a communications degree or demonstratable experience of planning/delivery of strategic communications at a senior level is essential.

Demonstrable interest in evaluation, data/insight and its application to comms settings, experience of anticipating/pre-empting and resolving complex and critical project blockages, including mitigating risks, experience of managing complex stakeholder relationships and matrix delivery models and experience of drafting high quality, insight driven strategic communications plans is essential.
