You will be able to combine financial literacy and critical thinking, with an appetite for consumer facing big-brand activations. In recent years, M&S has pioneered a digital-first approach to financial communications and this role will take on the baton to lead the practical and creative execution of our reporting calendar activity.

**Key accountabilities**
- With the support of the Corporate Affairs Leadership and other teams, including Investor Relations, develop and deliver a proactive external communications plan including a calendar of coordinated activity to ensure a regular news flow aligned with the overall M&S strategic narrative and commercial priorities:

- Building and maintaining support for our transformation and investment case
- Amplifying our positions and supporting our advocacy programme on key sustainability issues through insight-led themes and campaigns - strengthening trust and relevance in our business and brand
- Amplifying the cultural change at M&S and strengthening its employer brand
- Ensuring an integrated approach across External Communications, Product PR, Marketing and Colleague Communications for key campaigns for the trading calendar (Christmas, Easter, etc) and major launches.
- Provide senior leaders with counsel and advice, as a trusted partner, on reputation issues and opportunities; influencing outcomes to protect and enhance reputation and commercial goals
- Manage and coach the External Communications Managers helping them to:

- Be a valuable, trusted partner to the business areas they support; providing leadership on reputation issues and media management
- Develop the external narrative for the areas they partner with
- Turn complex information into simple messaging with strategic direction
- Move beyond the message to create sustained campaigns and plans rooted in storytelling techniques, work with the content & channels team to ensure they are delivered through creative formats - using new and emerging channels

**Media relations**
- Maintain positive working relationships with key media, influencers and sector commentators and ensure the External Communications Managers have established relationships with relevant contacts.
- Foster a culture in the team to research and review new and emerging media channels and platforms to ensure we reach the right audiences in fresh and engaging ways.

**Regulated financial activity.**
- With the support of Head of External Communications and Campaigns, manage the planning and delivery of our set piece regulatory communications and events - including financial results, corporate activity announcements and the AGM. Ensure all regulatory events these are delivered to the highest standard with a digital first approach and work closely with IR and Governance to ensure a fully joined-up approach. More specifically this role will:

- Manage the relationship with the Annual Report design and print agencies and project manage the timely and on-budget delivery of the report - chairing the internal working group including representation from Governance, Finance and People teams.
- Working with the appointed agency to project manage the event delivery of the AGM, with the support of the Events Officer.
- Oversee the media relations planning, content and execution for the corporate calendar.
- Oversee the planning and management of the Shareholder Panel

**Planning & Evaluation**
- Act as a core member of the Campaign planning and Masterbrand planning processes and work with the wider corporate affairs and marketing team to ensure both air traffic control and an integrated approach.
- Oversee development and delivery of Quarterly coverage and sentiment analysis report and ensure its timely distribution to Leadership team and ensure insights are acted on in line with External Communication strategy and plan.
- Establish and embed processes and ways of working which ensure efficient and effective delivery “right first time” and ensure that the team fully understands our disclosure requirements as a listed business
