Counter Operations Manager

As a Counter Operations Manager at WH Smith, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the customer experience within our retail environment. Your leadership will inspire a team of counter assistants to deliver outstanding service, achieve business objectives, and maintain the integrity of cash and postal operations. We aim for our team to take pride in facilitating our customers' journeys, whether through essential services or personal connections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fostering a customer-centric atmosphere that continuously seeks to enhance service quality and operational performance.
- Collaborating with the store team to identify and leverage opportunities for sales growth and increased customer traffic.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and internal training standards.
- Leading and motivating the team to meet both individual and branch performance targets, including sales, loss prevention, and operational costs.
- Partnering with the Cluster Manager to explore cost-saving measures and revenue enhancement strategies based on financial performance insights.
- Assisting in the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and training to performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
- Proven experience in a retail management or leadership role, particularly in environments handling financial transactions or high-value items.
- Demonstrated success in achieving store objectives, including sales maximization and loss control, with a solid understanding of financial statements.
- History of meeting ambitious targets while managing budgets effectively.
- Strong coaching and mentoring abilities to enhance team performance.
- Experience in actively leading by example and supporting team members on the sales floor.
