About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Post Office Counter Manager to join our team at WHSmith Retail Holdings Limited. As a Post Office Counter Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of counter assistants to provide exceptional customer service, meet business goals, and ensure the security of cash and postal items.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service Leadership: Create a customer-centric culture that prioritizes continuous improvement and delivers a professional, friendly service to all customers.
  • Store Team Collaboration: Work closely with the store team to maximize opportunities for sales growth and increase footfall throughout the Post Office and store.
  • Compliance and Training: Ensure the branch is fully compliant with current legislation and Post Office Ltd. compliance and training requirements.
  • Team Performance Management: Guide and inspire the team to achieve personal and branch targets, including sales, shrink, waste, cash loss, and staff costs, in an environment that encourages growth and inclusivity.
  • Cluster Management: Work closely with the Cluster Manager to identify cost savings and sales opportunities through analysis of the Profit & Loss statement.
  • Employee Lifecycle Support: Support the Cluster Manager with employee lifecycle activities, including recruitment, appraisals, training, and disciplinary procedures.
Requirements
  • Retail Experience: Proven experience in a retail management or leadership role, preferably with experience of dealing with financial products or high-value cash transactions.
  • Business Acumen: Experience in supporting the delivery of store goals, including maximizing sales, controlling shrink, and knowledge of P&L accounts.
  • Target Achievement: Previous experience of working to and achieving stretching targets within tight budgets.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Ability to coach and mentor the team to improve performance.
  • Leadership Skills: Experience of proactively leading from the front, getting stuck in, and helping the team on the shop floor.
