About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Nurse Specialist to join our dynamic team in the Children's Emergency Department. As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality, individualized care to children and their families, assessing care needs, and developing, implementing, and evaluating care plans without supervision.

Main Responsibilities

Assist the matrons in supporting the nursing team in regard to paediatric nursing care, monitor standards of paediatric nursing care, and take appropriate action to maintain and improve them. Provide children and carers/parents with ongoing referrals for support/treatments when necessary in the community, and respond to patients, relatives, and carers' concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required.

Person Specification

  • Registered Children's Nurse with active registration
  • Mentorship Qualification
  • Educated to degree level
  • EPALS/APLS certificate
  • Evidence of relevant post-graduate courses/training in speciality
  • Child protection qualification (or to complete in post)

  • Practice Educator
  • Physical Assessment skills
  • Nurse prescriber
  • Minor injury qualification
  • Minor illness qualification
  • Emergency Nurse Practitioner qualification

Essential Experience

  • Broad and relevant post-registration experience
  • Extensive experience within acute Paediatric speciality
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of leading shifts in Emergency or Acute Paediatric Department
  • Urgent and emergency care experience
  • Community paediatric experience
  • Working across professional boundaries
  • Working autonomously
  • Involvement with audit and implementation of change
