Senior Technical Specialist - Environmental Regulatory Advisor

We are trusted to serve Scotland, operating in a closely regulated environment. Our Waste Water Strategy & Environmental Team plays a pivotal role in building trust with external stakeholders and regulators.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. You will provide regulatory support to the West area Wastewater Operational teams and Capital Investment delivery teams, involving regular engagement with SEPA and other external stakeholders.
  2. You will be responsible for providing advice on compliance and licence issues to other Scottish Water teams, building and maintaining good relationships with colleagues and external parties.
  3. Your role will involve leading specific regulatory projects, collaborating with sub-teams within the organisation, and coordinating with regulatory bodies such as NatureScot and local authorities.
  4. You will need to balance maintaining positive relationships with challenging others to ensure both environmental and business benefits are achieved.
  5. You will contribute to developing and rolling out regulatory guidance within the business, ensuring everyone stays informed and aligned.

Requirements:

  • You will have a sound understanding of European and UK environmental legislation, particularly Scottish regulations.
  • A qualification in a scientific discipline would be desirable, along with practical knowledge of pollution control, wastewater collection and treatment.
  • You will need to be confident in preparing papers and presenting to colleagues, taking the lead on liaison with external parties, and interpreting and relaying information.
  • You must be adept at prioritisation of tasks and resilient to an ever-changing workload.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential for travel to attend face-to-face meetings.

This role offers a competitive salary of £60,000 - £70,000 per annum, depending on experience, with excellent opportunities for professional development and growth. With a strong emphasis on work-life balance, you can expect a healthy compensation package that reflects your skills and experience.
