Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for motivated and skilled professionals to join our team as a Band 6 Anticoagulation Nurse Specialist on a permanent basis. We are offering multiple full-time positions, with the possibility of part-time arrangements considered.

This role is based within a specialist department, providing numerous avenues for professional growth, managing your own patient caseload, and collaborating closely with Haematology Consultants.

While the primary locations are within our healthcare facilities, the role requires flexibility to provide cross-site coverage, ensuring comprehensive care across various settings. Access to personal transportation and a valid driving license is essential, with mileage reimbursed according to Trust policies.

Our operational hours are Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm, excluding bank holidays.

As a vital member of our team, you will engage with Haematology Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Support Workers, and administrative staff to facilitate nurse-led clinics across multiple sites and within community settings, including patient homes and care facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Dosing and monitoring patients on anticoagulation therapy, particularly Warfarin.
  • Providing education and counseling to patients regarding the safe use of anticoagulants.
  • Collaborating with inpatient teams to ensure safe dosing and timely patient discharges.
  • Conducting home visits for patient assessments.
  • Performing venepuncture and point-of-care blood testing.

Excellent communication and organizational skills are crucial, as you will be interacting with patients and their families during potentially stressful situations. The ability to offer guidance to medical professionals and nursing staff is also required. Strong time management skills and the capacity to prioritize clinical responsibilities are essential.

We seek candidates with experience in Clinical Nurse Specialist roles, although training will be provided for those meeting the minimum criteria. Full training and a period of supernumerary status will be offered, along with the completion of a competency-based assessment.
