Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an exceptional opportunity for motivated and skilled professionals to join our team as a Band 6 Anticoagulation Nurse Consultant on a permanent basis. We have several positions available with full-time permanent contracts, although part-time options may also be considered. This role is situated within a specialized department, offering numerous avenues for professional growth, the management of your own patient caseload, and collaboration with esteemed Haematology Consultants.

The positions are based across multiple hospital sites, and it is essential to provide cross-site coverage. Access to a personal vehicle and a valid driving license is required for this role, as you will be traveling to various locations, including community settings. Mileage reimbursement will be provided in accordance with Trust policies.

Our operational hours are from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.

As a vital member of our team, you will collaborate closely with Haematology Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Support Workers, and the administrative team to conduct nurse-led clinics across multiple hospital sites and within community settings, including patients' homes and care facilities for those undergoing anticoagulation therapy.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Administering and monitoring patients on Warfarin therapy.
  • Providing education and counseling to patients regarding the safe use of anticoagulants.
  • Coordinating with ward teams to ensure safe dosing for inpatients and facilitating timely discharges.
  • Conducting home visits for patients in the community.
  • Performing venepuncture and point-of-care blood testing.

This position requires excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to support patients and their families during potentially stressful situations. You will also need to provide guidance and advice to medical staff, nurses, and primary care providers. Punctuality, effective time management, and the ability to prioritize clinical responsibilities are essential. Candidates with prior experience as Clinical Nurse Specialists are highly valued. The role includes nursing administration tasks, necessitating proficient IT skills and familiarity with clinical documentation. We seek individuals with experience in consultation and care planning, whether for short or long-term needs. Candidates with qualifications in Health Assessment and Non-Medical Prescribing are particularly encouraged to apply. While we welcome applicants with relevant qualifications and experience, we also offer training for those who meet the minimum criteria.
