Position Overview

We are seeking a Band 6 Pediatric Speech and Language Specialist to join our dynamic Locality Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) teams. This role is pivotal in supporting children with diverse speech, language, and communication challenges within various educational environments.

Key Responsibilities

As a successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Oversee a personal caseload of children experiencing Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) and/or Dysphagia, encompassing assessment, diagnosis, and intervention strategies aimed at achieving meaningful outcomes.
  • Provide care through both in-person and virtual sessions across multiple settings, including educational institutions, community centers, and family homes.
  • Offer clinical supervision to newly qualified practitioners and junior staff members.
  • Engage with children and families in various environments, including early years and specialized settings, to support those with SLCN and complex needs.
  • Collaborate with educational institutions, local authorities, and early years partners to implement a graduated approach for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), while fostering local networks to enhance workforce skills and intervention effectiveness.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • A relevant degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • HCPC registration and full membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Evidence of recent professional development activities in specialized areas such as ASD, dysphagia, and fluency.
  • Experience in delivering clinical support and supervision to less experienced therapists.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.

Desirable:

  • Training in ADOS, NAS EarlyBird, PECS, or a postgraduate qualification in pediatric dysphagia.
