Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job Overview

This is a full-time position comprising 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) aimed at enhancing service delivery. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of eight other Pediatric Nephrology Consultants to provide a comprehensive nephrology service within the region. This role has been created to accommodate flexible retirement options and part-time working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

The appointee will be integral to the provision of a regional service, which includes:

  • Regular involvement in emergency admissions, ward consultations, and telephone consultations.
  • Managing scheduled admissions for diagnostic investigations and day case procedures.
  • Participating in an on-call rotation (approximately 1:6 or about 8.5 weeks annually), during which the on-call consultant will conduct daily business ward rounds without regular clinic commitments.

The on-call service is dedicated solely to nephrology, covering the entire region. The post holder will also be expected to conduct outreach clinics in coordination with the team, not exceeding once per month.

The appointee will lead the adolescent service, focusing on the transitional care of teenagers to ensure continuity of care. A significant aspect of this role will involve managing Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) clinics, particularly for patients with deteriorating transplants, while also addressing subspecialty needs for transitioning children. The department runs various subspecialty clinics, and the new appointee will be expected to engage in a vasculitis clinic.
