Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time Consultant in Pediatric Nephrology to enhance our service delivery, collaborating with a team of eight experienced nephrology consultants. This role is designed to ensure the provision of a comprehensive nephrology service within the region.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be integral to the regional service, which includes:

  • Regular management of emergency admissions and ward consultations.
  • Providing telephone consultations and overseeing scheduled admissions for diagnostic procedures and day cases.
  • Participating in an on-call rotation (approximately 1:6 or about 8.5 weeks annually), with dedicated time for business ward rounds during on-call weeks.
  • Conducting outreach clinics in collaboration with the team, with a frequency not exceeding once per month.

The appointee will also take the lead in managing the adolescent service, ensuring a smooth transition for teenage patients. A significant focus will be on Chronic Kidney Disease, particularly for patients facing transplant challenges, while also engaging in various subspecialty clinics, including a vasculitis clinic.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration (or within 6 months of CCT) with entry on the Specialist Register for pediatrics with a subspecialty in pediatric nephrology.
  • MRCPCH or equivalent qualification.

Desirable

  • Higher Degree (MD, PhD, etc.)
  • Master's in Medical Education.

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Completion of competency-based clinical training in pediatric nephrology at accredited centers.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Safeguarding Level 3 Training.

Desirable

  • Experience in pediatric nephrology across multiple centers.
  • Management training.
  • Fulfillment of GMC training requirements for Education/Clinical Supervisor roles.

Teaching and Research

Essential

  • Experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Understanding of clinical research principles and applications.

Desirable

  • Evidence of original research and presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
