Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a Senior Pediatric Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist. The successful candidate will provide advanced assessment and therapeutic interventions for pediatric patients in specialized clinics, including consultant-led sessions, casting using the Ponseti method, and hip scanning for infants. This role includes leading the pediatric outpatient musculoskeletal service, encompassing the planning, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of physiotherapy services.

The role requires effective collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and other healthcare professionals to enhance the development and implementation of pediatric physiotherapy intervention programs. The post holder will serve as a resource for expertise to clinicians, managers, and healthcare professionals both within and outside the organization.

Responsibilities also include conducting clinical audits and evaluating evidence-based practices, as well as initiating and participating in research within this specialized field. The candidate will oversee, mentor, and evaluate both staff and students. While the primary location for this position is designated, flexibility to work across various sites may be required.

Main Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  1. Delivering comprehensive musculoskeletal assessments, management, and treatment for pediatric outpatients, including those with complex and varied conditions; developing tailored treatment plans.
  2. Managing and providing leadership to pediatric physiotherapy colleagues within both outpatient and inpatient settings, fostering positive and collaborative relationships.
  3. Leading training initiatives for staff involved in pediatric musculoskeletal care.
  4. Maintaining professional accountability for all clinical care provided to patients under your supervision, while supporting junior staff in their responsibilities.
  5. Supervising and engaging in regular evidence-based audits and research projects to enhance clinical practices, and making recommendations for practice improvements to the Clinical Team Leader.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Strong educational background, including proficiency in English and mathematics, A levels or equivalent.
  • Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Physiotherapist.
  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate training in the specialized area.

Experience

Essential

  • Postgraduate experience in relevant specialist areas.
  • Experience working within the NHS.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) maintained in a portfolio, including recent courses related to musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
  • Proficiency in IT skills.
  • Experience in both primary care and acute pediatric musculoskeletal outpatient settings.
  • Ability to utilize clinical skills to systematically assess and diagnose patient issues.
  • Capability to analyze complex situations and information to determine appropriate actions, with flexibility to adapt plans as needed.
  • Experience in managing complex pediatric musculoskeletal cases.
  • Demonstrated leadership and staff management experience.
  • Experience in supervising students at clinical tutor and supervisor levels.
  • Experience in training staff across various levels.
  • Evidence of effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and across different agencies.
