Physiotherapist - Key Qualifications:

  • Registered with HCPC.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.

Physiotherapist - Role Overview:
Rehabilitation services within the Armed Forces are provided through various treatment facilities.

Primary Care Rehabilitation Facilities (PCRFs):

Patients may be referred to a physiotherapist at a PCRF, typically located within Defence Primary Healthcare medical establishments.

A physiotherapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment within a specified timeframe following the initial consultation and deliver necessary treatment and rehabilitation.

Many PCRFs are equipped with Exercise Rehabilitation Instructors who can offer specialized exercise therapy and guidance on a gradual return to fitness.


Regional Rehabilitation Units (RRUs):

Should a condition require more advanced management than what is available at the PCRF level, patients are referred to an RRU in the UK.

RRUs provide specialized assessments and opinions through a Multi-disciplinary Injury Assessment Clinic staffed by expert doctors, physiotherapists, and ERIs.

These clinics utilize a broad range of medical imaging to ensure accurate diagnoses and develop tailored treatment plans, while also offering additional options for pain management.


Stanford Hall - Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC):

The DMRC's mission is to deliver consultant-led rehabilitation services, assisting military personnel with significant musculoskeletal injuries, neurological conditions, and complex trauma.

Its objective is to enhance the functional capabilities and quality of life for patients, whether they are reintegrating into military service or transitioning to civilian life.
