About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Neuro-Oncology team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients undergoing awake craniotomy procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage patients with communication and swallowing disorders in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Work closely with the neuro-oncology multidisciplinary team to formulate language mapping plans for awake craniotomy procedures.
  • Contribute to specialist multidisciplinary team clinics and participate in service development and audit.
  • Train junior colleagues and students in Speech and Language Therapy practices.
  • Work flexibly and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
  • A good standard of secondary education, including A-Level or equivalent.
  • BSc or recognised MSc degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Completed RCSLT Level C/Level 5 EDS dysphagia competencies (or above).
  • Willingness and capability to achieve FEES interpretation and scoping competencies.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • FEES interpretation and scoping skills.
  • Tracheostomy competencies.
  • Significant experience of working independently with adult dysphagia caseload at a specialist level.
  • Significant experience of working with a neurosurgery and neuro-oncology caseload.
  • Significant experience of working independently within acute hospital and outpatient settings.
  • Significant experience of working successfully as part of a multidisciplinary team.
