Position Overview

Are you passionate about advancing your nursing career and enhancing your professional skills?

Do you prioritize delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring that fundamental nursing practices are upheld?

We are actively seeking Band 5 nurses to join our thoracic surgical unit, providing care for a diverse range of thoracic surgery and respiratory medical patients. Our patient demographic includes individuals aged 18 and older, presenting with various health conditions such as lung cancer, chest wall cancer, pleural effusion, rib fractures, pneumothorax, and airway complications. This dynamic respiratory ward offers a unique chance to enhance your clinical expertise and acquire competencies in High Dependency Unit (HDU) nursing, including the management of arterial lines, blood gas analysis, chest drain care, complex airway management, nerve blocks, epidurals, and pain control, among other critical skills.

The Thoracic Surgical department stands as one of the largest tertiary thoracic units in the UK, catering to a population of approximately 6 million across the Greater West Midlands region.

We seek nurses who excel in fast-paced settings and possess the resilience to thrive under pressure, supported by our experienced senior staff.

Key Responsibilities

Our team benefits from the assistance of acute outreach nurses and a variety of specialist nurses dedicated to patient care within this specialty. Our surgical wards are supported by a professional development nurse, ensuring that all staff receive timely and appropriate training tailored to their individual needs.

Opportunities for additional support in this role are available through participation in HDU study days and various other training courses.

We are a committed team with the resources and motivation to provide high-quality care to all our patients.

Effective teamwork and communication are vital as we collaborate with a diverse range of specialist nursing teams, medical professionals, and therapists.
