Duckworth, a distinguished publisher of high-quality non-fiction and literary fiction, has been a staple in the industry since 1898, now revitalized for contemporary audiences. Our diverse non-fiction catalog includes memoirs, biographies, history, popular science, psychology, and insightful thinking. Additionally, our Farrago imprint specializes in 'fiction to make you smile', showcasing a variety of humorous writing.

We are seeking a Publicity Officer to take charge of the following responsibilities:

  • Overseeing Duckworth and Farrago's social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Facebook), which involves crafting and positioning engaging, innovative content to highlight our current and past publications.
  • Assisting in the organization of book trade events that elevate our authors and brand visibility.
  • Supporting internal publicity initiatives, reporting directly to the lead publicist.
  • Identifying promotional prospects and developing compelling pitches.
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with media representatives.
  • Producing publicity updates and reports to aid the sales team.
  • Keeping comprehensive records of all press, radio, and television coverage.
  • Executing general administrative duties related to publicity, including mail distribution and database upkeep.

This position is ideal for a motivated and energetic individual with a genuine interest in publishing, eager to enhance their skills within a small, collaborative team. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in publicity is required, along with proficiency in social media, strong communication abilities, and a solid understanding of press and media channels. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to efficiently source and organize information, exhibit initiative and attention to detail, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.

You will possess the enthusiasm and creativity to support the organic promotion of books, maximizing their potential for success throughout their lifecycle. A dedication to reading, creativity, and being a strong team player are essential.

This role is a 9-month contract, requiring 4-5 days of work per week, with a minimum of 2 days in the office. We are committed to being an equal opportunities employer and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds with relevant experience.
