Position Overview

The Director of Commercial Operations will be instrumental in advancing Glanbia Performance Nutrition's (GPN) goal of becoming the premier provider of Sports Nutrition, Weight Management, and Healthy Lifestyle products in the UK. This role encompasses P&L oversight for a UK business valued at approximately $150 million NSV.

This position requires steering the strategic vision of the organization and executing growth initiatives for further expansion within the UK market, collaborating closely with the UK Leadership Team, which includes Finance, HR, Customer Strategy & Operations, Supply Chain, and Marketing, as well as regional marketing and innovation teams.

As a member of the UK Leadership team, the Director will effectively engage with peers and spearhead the trade and product strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement both short-term and long-term sales strategies for the UK market.
  • Assume responsibility for Customer and Commercial P&L, driving revenue and profitability while managing costs and ROI metrics with support from Finance.
  • Advance the customer strategy by cultivating robust and sustainable relationships with key clients, focusing on shopper, channel, and category-centric solutions that enhance customer engagement.
  • Recruit, nurture, and develop a high-performing senior commercial team, ensuring a strong talent pipeline that supports strategic development and execution.
  • Inspire and motivate the Commercial team to achieve commercial objectives and align with the overarching UK strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with all functions, particularly Marketing, Innovation, Category/Insights, and Supply, to ensure that the needs of shoppers, trade partners, and customers are integrated into strategic plans and that business targets are met.
  • Play a pivotal role in the UK leadership team, responsible for shaping and executing the UK strategy and guiding the broader business towards success.
  • Build relationships and secure buy-in from stakeholders to facilitate the successful implementation of the UK Commercial strategy.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduate-level education with over 10 years of experience in FMCG or consumer products, emphasizing sales and category management. Experience in Sports Nutrition or the Nutrition category is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 7 years in P&L Management, with experience as a Sales Director or in senior National Account Controller roles. At least 5 years of experience leading large teams, demonstrating effective people leadership through measurable team achievements and engagement results.
  • Proven track record of inspiring and leading a commercial team or matrix organization to consistently deliver business outcomes.
  • Leadership experience should include participation in a leadership team and/or leading large-scale strategic initiatives that require enterprise accountability and strategic vision.
  • Experience in areas such as Strategic Account Management, Customer Marketing, Category Leadership, Supplier Relationship Management, and Digital is beneficial. Involvement in various scenarios, such as re-organizations or business turnarounds, is a plus.
  • Diverse commercial, category, and customer experience with a demonstrated ability to forge strong and impactful customer relationships.
  • Strong history of developing and executing customer-centric visions and strategies, with the capability to inspire and lead a Commercial team or matrix organization to achieve consistent business results.
  • Ability to navigate complex situations and challenge the status quo with a proactive attitude. Self-sufficient, decisive, and resilient, able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Proven ability to leverage strategic insight to develop trend-based strategies that translate into top-line growth, margin enhancement, market share, and overall business success.
  • Commercially astute with sound business judgment and an understanding of the financial implications of decision-making.
