Position Overview

As the Chief Editorial Officer, you will serve as a leading authority in the development and dissemination of original content for our esteemed journal. Your role will encompass the management of submissions and the oversight of a rigorous peer review process to guarantee the publication of top-tier scholarly work. You will cultivate international partnerships with specialists in the field to attract and share transformative research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establishing and launching a pioneering online-only gold open access journal.
  • Overseeing the daily editorial management of manuscripts and peer-review processes while steering the editorial vision of The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology, & Women's Health.
  • Directly managing two Senior Editors.
  • Building and sustaining relationships with global communities in obstetrics, gynaecology, & women's health to attract high-caliber research submissions.
  • Representing the journal at conferences and events, staying informed about advancements in obstetrics, gynaecology, & women's health, and identifying relevant topics for publication.
  • Contributing editorials and additional content for the journal as necessary.
  • Assisting in the development of innovative initiatives for the journal's future growth.
  • Engaging in collaborative projects across The Lancet Group and, when appropriate, with Elsevier and RELX.

Qualifications

  • A Medical Degree in a relevant field or a PhD in a related discipline with postdoctoral research experience.
  • Significant editorial experience at a senior level, with a comprehensive understanding of the editorial workflow, journal production, and team management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in biological and medical sciences, along with awareness of broader social issues related to obstetrics, gynaecology, & women's health.
  • Proven ability to engage, influence, and foster relationships with external stakeholders, including medical professionals, researchers, internal teams, and media representatives.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the capacity to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Strong command of the English language with the ability to write compelling and engaging content.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including MS Office.
