Position Overview

As the Chief Editorial Officer, you will be a leading authority responsible for overseeing the development and dissemination of original content for our esteemed journal. Your role will involve managing submissions and ensuring rigorous peer review processes to maintain the highest standards of published work. You will cultivate global connections with experts in the field to attract and share transformative research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establishing and launching a digital-only open access journal
  • Overseeing daily editorial operations, including paper management and peer-review processes, while steering the editorial vision for The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology, & Women's Health
  • Directly managing two Senior Editors
  • Building and nurturing relationships within the global obstetrics, gynaecology, & women's health communities to attract high-caliber research submissions
  • Representing the journal at conferences and events, staying informed on advancements in obstetrics, gynaecology, & women's health, and identifying emerging topics of interest
  • Contributing editorials and additional content for the journal as needed
  • Assisting in the development of innovative initiatives for the journal's future
  • Engaging in collaborative projects across The Lancet Group and, occasionally, with Elsevier and RELX

Qualifications

  • A Medical Degree in a relevant field or a PhD in a related discipline, complemented by postdoctoral research experience
  • Significant editorial experience at a senior level, with a comprehensive understanding of the editorial workflow, journal production, and team management
  • Demonstrated expertise in biological and medical sciences, along with awareness of broader social issues related to obstetrics, gynaecology, & women's health
  • Proven ability to engage, influence, and establish relationships with external stakeholders, including medical professionals, researchers, internal teams, and media representatives
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the capacity to meet demanding deadlines
  • Strong command of the English language, with the ability to write compelling and engaging content
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including MS Office
