Role Summary

The editor plays a pivotal role in the industry, leading a well-respected publication. Responsibilities encompass overseeing the production of both the magazine and the website, as well as engaging with governmental bodies, civil services, trade associations, and businesses on sector-related matters.

Target Audience

Our readership comprises senior executives from waste management firms, local authority environmental directors, finance leaders, contract managers, and recycling specialists. We also serve as a crucial resource for government officials.

Industry Relevance

Our sector is at the forefront of significant discussions regarding resource efficiency, environmental sustainability, and the circular economy. MRW addresses a broad spectrum of topics, including new legislation on extended producer responsibility, recycling service reforms, product design innovations, mergers and acquisitions, waste exports, environmental regulations, and waste-related crimes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the editorial team and manage a network of freelancers to ensure high-quality content production.
  • Ensure that all content aligns with audience needs across digital, print, and event platforms.
  • Represent the brand at senior industry events and liaise with key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate and host events, both in-person and online, while also representing the brand at external events.
  • Advise on improvements and extensions to existing content and products.
  • Manage staffing and production budgets effectively.
  • Identify growth opportunities and develop investment proposals.
  • Collaborate with the subscriptions team to strategize across all reader/user demographics.
  • Oversee the delivery of commercial content across various formats, including webinars and reports.
  • Support the National Recycling Awards, ensuring content aligns with event strategies.
  • Exhibit strong writing skills to convey industry priorities through columns and briefings.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Extensive experience in high-quality journalism, particularly for a senior professional audience.
  • Proficiency in content planning and strategic development.
  • Ability to utilize digital analytics to inform content strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in managing and developing a team.
  • Experience in budget management and setting.
  • Competence in public speaking and event facilitation.
  • Strong networking abilities with high-level industry contacts.
  • Commercial acumen and a collaborative approach to working with commercial and event teams.
  • Adept at multitasking and managing various projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the UK waste management and recycling landscape is advantageous.
