Job Overview

Join our dedicated team as a Band 5 Nurse specializing in Critical Care (ICU/HDU). We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to enhance our Critical Care Team.

We have opportunities available across our facilities for nurses eager to develop their critical care expertise. Our service encompasses 21 beds across two sites.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) accommodates 13 beds, catering to a variety of medical, surgical, renal, and obstetric emergencies requiring both level 2 and level 3 critical care.

The High Dependency Unit (HDU) has 8 beds, focusing on elective surgical patients needing level 2 post-operative care, as well as medical emergencies requiring level 2 and level 3 support.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a passion for caring for critically ill patients to fill Band 5 nursing positions. New nurses in critical care will participate in our Intensive Care Foundation Programme, with the potential to pursue an academic qualification in Intensive Care upon successful completion. We are committed to ongoing professional development to support your career in critical care nursing.

Main Responsibilities

Key Duties:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care within your responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients, ensuring care plans reflect current needs.
  • Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Provide holistic, high-standard care to critically ill patients and their families.
  • Coordinate with other relevant departments within the organization.
  • Act as a resource for peers, patients, relatives, and other staff.
  • Engage proactively in unit and nursing service development.
  • Ensure safe patient care, with potential short-notice assignments across sites based on staffing and patient needs.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training:

Essential Criteria:

  • Current or pending NMC registration.
  • Evidence of recent or ongoing professional development.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Degree in Nursing.
  • Completion of National Framework - steps 1 competencies.

Experience:

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant experience in an Acute NHS ward.
  • Demonstrated motivation and commitment to working in critical care.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous critical care experience as a student or registered nurse.
  • Post-qualification experience in an acute ward setting.

Skills:

Essential Criteria:

  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong general nursing skills delivered with compassion.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of priorities in caring for critically ill patients.
