Role Overview

The primary objective of this role is to assist in crafting content and strategies while conducting thorough research to formulate and refine high-quality responses that contribute to successful bids. The selected candidate will become part of a dedicated, enthusiastic, and collaborative team responsible for managing tenders worth over £5 billion each year.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant should possess the ability to create clear, concise, and persuasive content while adhering to deadlines. Experience in both public sector frameworks and private sector bid writing is essential. A commitment to delivering exceptional service will foster best practices and ongoing enhancements in the bidding process.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with bid managers, directors, subject matter experts, and proposal designers to develop impactful submissions that effectively address client requirements.

Responsibilities include ensuring that written responses are tailored and achieve high scores based on evaluation criteria. The candidate should be prepared to mentor others in writing and work alongside colleagues to enhance the overall growth and learning of the team. Additionally, part of the role involves contributing to the Bid Asset Library, known as 'The Hive'.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist subject matter experts in creating engaging and technically accurate content for tenders and Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs).
  • Participate in initial meetings with the production team to establish strategy, content, and action items.
  • Collaborate with bid managers, directors, or project managers to delegate responsibilities for technical responses.
  • Prepare written content in advance of tender submissions.
  • Analyze questions and develop answer plans to maximize relevant information from subject matter experts.
  • Facilitate answer planning workshops.
  • Maintain a consistently high standard of content in the bid asset library, ensuring regular updates and maintenance.
  • Review, edit, and create materials for case studies, project profiles, and CVs.
  • Establish trust and credibility with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Support colleagues in the proposals team during critical deadlines.
  • Assist in peer reviewing content for quality assurance.
  • Encourage the growth and development of others through mentoring and support.
  • Engage with early career programs to work with graduates.
  • Lead or assist in onboarding new team members and provide training.
  • Contribute to presentations, team meetings, and team-building events.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience within the construction industry, with specific knowledge of the Bid Writer role and responsibilities.
  • Proven experience with public sector bids is crucial, while private sector experience is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce written content for successful bids.
  • Strong research skills and effective questioning techniques.
  • Evidence of mentoring and developing other writers, along with a passion for this aspect of the role.
  • High proficiency in MS Word, including experience with templates.
  • Ability to influence and persuade, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional proofreading and editing capabilities.
  • Accountability for role-related judgments and decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics is a plus, though training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • APMP qualification or willingness to pursue corporate qualification.
  • Preferably a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
