Special Educational Needs Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel is looking for a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support Assistant to work within a secondary school rated 'Good' by Ofsted. This full-time role involves supporting students with diverse educational requirements and aims to foster their academic and social growth.

Position Overview:

As a Special Educational Needs Support Assistant, you will be instrumental in aiding students with special educational needs. Collaborating closely with the SEN Coordinator and teaching staff, your primary focus will be to facilitate the educational and personal development of students facing various challenges, ensuring they receive the necessary support to thrive.

Key Duties:

  • Personalized Assistance: Deliver customized one-on-one and small group support to SEN students, helping them engage with the curriculum and overcome learning obstacles.
  • Classroom Support: Aid teachers in adapting lesson plans and classroom activities to meet the needs of SEN students, ensuring all learners can access educational materials.
  • Monitoring Progress: Maintain comprehensive records of student progress, including academic achievements and personal growth. Utilize this information to inform ongoing support strategies and communicate effectively with the educational team and families.
  • Behavioral Support: Implement and assist with behavior management strategies, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate conduct and help students develop self-regulation skills.
  • Promoting Inclusion: Create an inclusive classroom atmosphere by encouraging the participation of SEN students in all school activities, from lessons to extracurricular programs.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in partnership with teachers, the SEN Coordinator, and external agencies to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting each student. This includes attending meetings, contributing to Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and executing agreed-upon strategies.
  • Engaging with Families: Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and collaborating on strategies to support learning and development at home.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with young individuals, particularly those with special educational needs, is highly valued.
  • A patient and empathetic demeanor, with the ability to forge strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively liaise with colleagues, students, and families.
  • A proactive mindset, capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with SEN strategies and interventions, including experience with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior management techniques.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting young people with special educational needs and assisting them in reaching their full potential.
