Educational Support Specialist

Teaching Personnel is looking for a dedicated Educational Support Specialist to contribute to an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary institution. This full-time role involves providing essential support to students with diverse learning requirements, ensuring they can engage with the curriculum effectively.

Position Overview:

As an Educational Support Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to offer personalized assistance to students, helping them to reach their academic potential. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education and eager to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Support: Deliver tailored one-on-one and small group assistance to students with additional learning needs, adapting materials and teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles.
  • Classroom Support: Aid the classroom instructor in creating an effective learning environment, including preparing activities and assisting with classroom management.
  • Differentiated Learning: Collaborate with educators to implement instructional strategies that address the unique needs of each student, modifying tasks and providing supplementary resources as necessary.
  • Monitoring Progress: Maintain detailed records of student development, identifying any obstacles to learning and documenting strategies employed to overcome them.
  • Support for Special Educational Needs: Assist students with special educational needs by following their Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and working closely with the SEN Coordinator to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Emotional and Social Guidance: Provide pastoral care to students, fostering their confidence, social skills, and resilience through mentoring and support during challenging times.
  • Parent and Carer Communication: Engage with parents and guardians as needed, offering updates on student progress and discussing strategies for support.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Work alongside teachers and support staff to maintain a cohesive approach to student assistance, contributing to a nurturing and inclusive educational atmosphere.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with youth in educational or support settings is highly valued.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude towards supporting students with varied needs.
  • A solid understanding of the challenges faced by students with additional learning requirements and effective strategies to assist them.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team while also working independently when required.
  • A genuine commitment to fostering the academic, social, and emotional success of young individuals.
