Overview of the Position

We are seeking a dedicated clinical physicist to become a vital member of the Radiotherapy Physics team at the Royal Marsden Hospital. This role is designed for a physicist with a keen interest in information technology, allowing for significant contributions to the computing aspects of the department.

The Radiotherapy Department is equipped with advanced technology, including multiple Elekta linacs and a Cyberknife S7, alongside a newly installed Accuray Radixact system. Treatment planning utilizes the RayStation system, employing various techniques such as VMAT, 4DCT, and adaptive methods. Our IT infrastructure is intricate, necessitating collaboration between the radiotherapy physics team and the hospital's IT department.

The Radiotherapy Physics group comprises a diverse team of professionals, including physicists, dosimetrists, and engineers, and is part of a larger collaborative effort with the Institute of Cancer Research.

Main Responsibilities

1.1 The successful candidate will engage proactively in all IT-related activities within the Radiotherapy Physics Group, ensuring optimal IT service delivery and addressing immediate concerns while fostering long-term enhancements.

1.2 Responsibilities include conducting maintenance and quality control on IT systems and overseeing repair operations.

1.3 Key relationships will be established with the Head of Translational Radiotherapy Physics and other multidisciplinary professionals, including radiotherapy engineers and IT specialists.

1.4 The candidate will stay informed about the latest IT advancements and recommend necessary updates to the IT framework.

1.5 Contributions to various departmental activities will be expected, based on the candidate's expertise.

1.6 The role involves evaluating and selecting new IT systems and collaborating closely with departmental leaders.

Detailed Responsibilities

2.1 Lead IT personnel within the Radiotherapy Physics Group to ensure timely and effective responses to IT challenges, guided by senior management.

2.2 Under the strategic oversight of the Head of Translational Radiotherapy Physics, enhance the IT services available to staff.

2.3 Actively contribute to other service areas, developing specialized skills in treatment planning and quality assurance of treatment machines.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Good Honours degree in a relevant field
  • MSc in Radiation Physics or equivalent

Desirable Criteria

  • PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent

Registration

Essential Criteria

  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist

Desirable Criteria

  • RPA2000 MPE certification

Technical Skills

Essential Criteria

  • Extensive experience in radiotherapy, particularly regarding IT
  • Proficient in operating systems, networks, and data management
  • Experience in IT project management
  • Strong programming skills, preferably in Python

  • Experience managing radiotherapy-specific IT systems
