Position Overview
We are seeking applications for a Consultant in Clinical Oncology specializing in Urology to join our multidisciplinary team at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Our esteemed urology service is recognized as one of the most comprehensive cancer care providers in the UK, offering both secondary and tertiary level services.
This role will focus on the management of patients with prostate cancer, providing care at our designated sites.
Our service handles approximately 1000 patients annually, performing around 550 radical prostate procedures each year. We provide comprehensive care for patients with metastatic conditions, utilizing various systemic therapies. The clinical responsibilities are diverse and include advanced radiotherapy planning, palliative care, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), magnetic resonance-guided radiotherapy, chemotherapy, androgen-targeted therapies, and radioisotope treatments for prostate cancer. Involvement in clinical trials is an essential aspect of this position.
Candidates must be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council and possess Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists or equivalent qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
This position will support the treatment of prostate cancer patients under the uro-oncology team.
The successful candidate will participate in consultant ward rounds at our designated site, providing expert review of uro-oncology inpatients. The specific arrangement of ward cover will be determined collaboratively within the team.
As the management of prostate cancer becomes increasingly intricate, this role aims to collaborate with the existing Consultant team to deliver exemplary clinical services. This position does not entail inpatient duties or ward rounds outside of on-call responsibilities, which are organized on a non-resident rota.
The Trust is recognized as the largest training center for clinical and medical oncology in the country. We collaborate with other training centers to provide comprehensive training in all aspects of clinical oncology necessary for Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) and Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). All consultants are expected to contribute to the training of Specialist Trainees, Registrars, and visiting trainees in various capacities. Additionally, involvement in training programs for radiographers, nurses, and medical physicists is anticipated.
The post holder will also participate in the Consultant Clinical Oncology on-call rota.
