Position Overview
We invite applications for the role of Consultant in Clinical Oncology specializing in Urology to become a vital member of our multidisciplinary team at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Our institution is recognized as one of the foremost cancer treatment centers in the UK, offering extensive services at both secondary and tertiary levels.
This position will primarily focus on the management of patients with prostate cancer, contributing to our comprehensive care approach across various sites.
Our service handles approximately 1000 patients annually, with around 550 radical prostate interventions performed each year. We provide care for patients with advanced disease, utilizing multiple systemic therapy options. The clinical responsibilities are diverse, encompassing advanced radiotherapy planning, palliative treatments, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), magnetic resonance-guided radiotherapy, palliative chemotherapy, androgen-targeted therapies, and radioisotope treatments for prostate cancer. Engagement in clinical research and trials is an integral part of this role.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will support the treatment of prostate cancer patients under the supervision of the uro-oncology team.
Responsibilities include:
- Participating in consultant ward rounds at our designated site, providing expert reviews of uro-oncology inpatients.
- Collaborating with the existing Consultant team to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical services.
- Managing complex cases, with a focus on enhancing patient outcomes through improved treatment options.
- Engaging in training and mentorship of Specialist Trainees and Registrars, as well as contributing to educational programs for other healthcare professionals.
This role does not entail inpatient duties or ward rounds outside of on-call responsibilities, which follow a non-resident rota.
