Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a Senior Clinical Nurse Leader position. This role will collaborate closely with the Clinical Management team to ensure the successful implementation of the organizational strategy, operational planning, and financial performance within the nursing division.

Main Responsibilities

We seek credible and influential leaders who can demonstrate strong, consistent, and effective leadership. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care while optimizing available resources. A proven track record in leadership, along with experience in managing significant staff and budgetary responsibilities, is essential. You should be results-oriented, having led complex change initiatives, and possess a history of fostering excellence in service delivery and staff performance.

Central to this role is the ongoing engagement of clinical managers in a complex, specialized environment to collaboratively achieve annual business planning objectives. This includes ensuring adequate capacity and capability to meet both local and national priorities while supporting the organization in advancing research and private care initiatives. The post holder will also play a crucial role in exploring new strategic opportunities and alternative service delivery models across the network.

The Senior Clinical Nurse Leader will also serve as a deputy for the Clinical Director when necessary.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

The nursing division is organized into several Clinical Business Units (CBUs):

CBU1: Focused on Breast, Plastics, Lung, and Acute Oncology Services, leading all Medical Day units and Home Care. CBU2: Concentrating on Haematology, Head & Neck, Neuro-oncology, and Children & Young People services, overseeing ambulatory and ward areas. CBU3: Dedicated to GI, Gynaecology, and Urology services, managing all solid tumor wards across the network.

The post holder will work alongside the existing Senior Clinical Nurse Leader, taking responsibility for CBU1 and contributing to strategic divisional initiatives as well as leading Trust-wide programs.

Essential Criteria

Recognized management qualification, such as a Master's degree, or equivalent knowledge and experience. Demonstrable experience in navigating NHS Finance processes and systems. Project management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Experience

Essential Criteria

Significant experience in managing or leading a service or team. At least three years of experience in staff management. Proven experience in appraising and developing staff. Evidence of effective leadership and team building. Experience in preparing and presenting to senior management groups. Experience in managing complex change initiatives. Understanding of confidentiality issues. Awareness of Equal Opportunities issues.

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

Essential Criteria

Ability to communicate clearly in a variety of situations. Capacity to represent the Trust at local, national, and international meetings. Broad understanding of the NHS and key policy issues affecting performance. Proficient in written communication and use of word processing software. Competence in using Microsoft Excel or equivalent software. Proven experience in budget management. Evidence of complex problem-solving skills. Ability to plan effectively to meet tight deadlines.
