Senior Psychiatric Consultant

The Senior Psychiatric Consultant will oversee a specialized unit dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health care for adult males. This role involves managing a 15-bed facility that caters to individuals with complex mental health needs, including those with a history of offending behavior, personality disorders, and substance misuse.
The Consultant will conduct thorough admission evaluations and prepare detailed psychiatric assessments for legal proceedings, ensuring compliance with mental health regulations.
As part of a collaborative team, the Consultant will engage in local consultancy duties and contribute to risk assessments, promoting best practices in patient care.
This position adheres to a recovery-oriented model, aiming to create a secure environment that fosters healing and reintegration into the community.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe role encompasses 7.5 PAs of Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs), with specific duties established in consultation with the Clinical Director.
The Consultant will:
- Deliver expert clinical care while working autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain the role of Responsible Clinician as per the Mental Health Act, ensuring accountability for clinical decisions.
- Provide comprehensive assessments and manage patient care, considering psychiatric, physiological, and psychological factors.
- Ensure safe and effective clinical coverage in line with service requirements.
- Engage families and caregivers in treatment planning, respecting patient consent.
