Clinical Laboratory Associate in Haematology and Blood Services

Position Overview
We are looking for a Clinical Laboratory Associate to join our esteemed Department of Blood Sciences, specializing in Haematology and Blood Services. This role is pivotal in supporting Biomedical Scientists and collaborating closely with the Pathology Reception team as part of our comprehensive Blood Sciences unit. Our department handles a significant volume of samples from various sources, including emergency services, inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and general practitioners.
Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Laboratory Associate will be engaged in both technical and administrative functions, including:
- Operating and maintaining automated analyzers in compliance with laboratory protocols, including quality control procedures.
- Conducting manual tests and accurately documenting results.
- Performing manual staining of blood smears.
- Registering patient samples into the Laboratory Information System, ensuring precise entry of test requests.
- Centrifuging samples and appropriately loading them onto laboratory analyzers.
- Assisting Biomedical Scientists with managing pending test lists.
- Coordinating the referral, packaging, and dispatch of samples to other facilities.
- Responding to inquiries at the reception and via telephone, liaising with other staff and the public.
- Managing inventory, including ordering and receiving supplies, documenting deliveries, and organizing reagents.
- Participating in the training and competency evaluation of new staff members.
- Acting as a deputy for the Pathology Reception Team Leader when necessary.

Essential Qualifications
- Proven experience in a laboratory setting.

- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols meticulously.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications relevant to laboratory operations.
- Familiarity with medical and scientific terminology.
